Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort

The Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush by Sean Lavin is a 28 inch open ribbon bowl of steel or brass with integrated LED modules. It sits close to the ceiling or drops on rigid stems to suit the room. It comes in Aged Iron or Polished Antique Brass.

The Design Story

Sean Lavin built the Sanchi series from open ribbon baskets that read like woven bowls in the air. The X-Large Semi Flush takes a single basket and hangs it near the ceiling, so you get the ribbon silhouette and its soft striped shadows without the height of a chandelier. The metalwork is hand-hammered, and the brass shows a natural living finish.

Why You'll Love It

The Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush is made for rooms with a standard ceiling where a chandelier would hang too low: an entry, a hallway, a bedroom, a kitchen or a dining area. It measures 13.8 inches from ceiling to bottom with no stems and can drop to 67.8 inches overall with the included stems. The LED gives a soft 2700K glow at 90 CRI, and it dims on ELV, Triac and 0-10V dimmers.

Built for Damp Locations

Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush is ETL listed, and Visual Comfort lists it for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover, such as a covered porch. The bowl is steel or brass and the LED modules are integrated. The Polished Antique Brass finish carries a California Proposition 65 warning from Visual Comfort: it can expose you to chemicals including lead, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (P65Warnings.ca.gov).

Where It Shines

In an entry, a hallway, a stairwell landing, a bedroom, a kitchen or dining area, or a restaurant or boutique with a standard ceiling.

Who This Is Not For

The Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush is a 28 inch decorative glow, so it is not a bright task light. It weighs 26.5 lbs, so it needs a properly supported ceiling box. In a very small room it may overpower the space.

Questions We Hear Most

How big is the Sanchi X-Large Semi Flush?

The ribbon bowl is 28 inches across and 10.8 inches tall. The canopy is 4.9 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches deep. It weighs 26.5 lbs.

How close to the ceiling does it sit?

With no stems it measures 13.8 inches from the ceiling to the bottom of the bowl. The included stems, four at 12 inches and two at 6 inches, let you drop it as far as 67.8 inches overall.

Can it go on a sloped ceiling?

Yes. Visual Comfort lists it for sloped ceilings up to 22.5 degrees.

Can I dim it?

Yes. It dims on ELV, Triac and 0-10V dimmers and runs on universal 120V to 277V. The LED modules are integrated, with a rated life of L70 over 50,000 hours, so there are no bulbs to replace.

How do I choose between Aged Iron and Polished Antique Brass?

Aged Iron is a dark, deep-toned finish that reads as charcoal on a light ceiling. Polished Antique Brass is warm and golden and picks up the glow of the LEDs. Pick the metal that matches the rest of the room.

Can I use it outdoors?

Visual Comfort lists it for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover, such as a covered porch. It is not for fully exposed outdoor use.
