Roc is a tall table lamp that sets a honed travertine block against a faceted antique bronze column and a rounded square linen shade, made by CTO Lighting of London. It is 11.8 in (300 mm) wide, 12.6 in (320 mm) deep and 34.6 in (880 mm) tall.

The Design Story

CTO says Roc takes two forms and two materials and blends them in harmony. It wanted a strong material statement, so it paired travertine with antique bronze. The metalwork is multi-faceted and gently antiqued for a refined look, and its weight and scale give a three-dimensional composition from any angle. The rounded square shade in natural linen softens it.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

The base is a block of honed travertine. The column is faceted metal in antique bronze, and the shade is natural linen fabric. Each of the three parts works with the others.

The Finishes

Honed travertine. A warm, sand-colored natural stone with small pores and a smooth, honed face. Each block is different.

Antique bronze. A dark, gently antiqued bronze with soft facets.

Natural linen. A woven shade with a warm, textured look that gives a soft, golden glow.

Why You’ll Love It

It reads as a sculpture by day and a lamp by night. The stone anchors the lamp, the bronze draws the eye up, and the square shade throws light onto the wall and the table below. CTO suggests it for sideboards, consoles and side tables, and for reception rooms, bedrooms and hospitality spaces.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version takes one E26 bulb, 60W maximum or an 8W LED at 2700K, and needs a dimmable bulb to dim. The lamp has a 78.7 in (2000 mm) silk braided cord with an inline dimmer and weighs 28.7 lb (13 kg), so set it on a solid surface. It is UL listed (E492309) and IP20 for dry indoor rooms. Dust the shade gently with a soft, dry cloth or a lint roller. Wipe the base with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Skip detergents and abrasives, and keep water off the stone.
