Quoddy Small Table Lamp by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort

The Quoddy Small Table Lamp by Sean Lavin is a slim cylinder built from a stack of thin metal rings, with a solid disc on top and a lit core you glimpse between the layers. It stands 17.5 inches tall on an 8 inch footprint and plugs into a wall outlet with a six-foot black cloth cord.

A touch dimmer built into the lamp gives you three light levels. Choose Dark Bronze, Polished Nickel or Natural Brass.

The Design Story

Sean Lavin designs lighting by working with light, form and material, drawing on art, architecture, travel and technology. Visual Comfort describes Quoddy as an ode to the moments when the city awakens under the golden veil of dawn. You can see it in the shape: a tower of horizontal bands, the way light slips between the floors of a tall building at first light, with the glow coming from inside the stack rather than from a shade.

Why You'll Love It

Quoddy is a lamp that works as a sculpture when it is off and as a soft lantern when it is on. The light comes from an integrated LED that delivers 103 lumens at 2700K and 90 CRI, a low amber glow meant for ambience rather than reading. That makes it a strong fit for a console, sideboard, credenza or bedside table where you want a warm accent. The Natural Brass finish is a living finish that darkens and warms with age, and the dark bronze and polished nickel versions stay crisp and graphic.

Built to Be Handled

The lamp is made of steel or brass and weighs 10.5 lbs, a solid weight for its size. It is ETL listed and intended for indoor use in dry locations. Visual Comfort backs it with a five-year warranty. If the Natural Brass finish develops an uneven patina or spots, Visual Comfort says a brass cleaner can restore it.

Where It Shines

On a console, sideboard, credenza, bedside table or bookshelf, or at the end of a hallway table where a warm, sculptural accent matters more than task light.

Who This Is Not For

Quoddy gives a gentle glow of 103 lumens, so it is not the lamp for reading or desk work. It is a plug-in lamp for dry indoor spaces, so it needs an outlet within six feet and is not for a patio or bathroom. If you want to read in bed, pair it with a brighter lamp.

Questions We Hear Most

How bright is it?

It delivers 103 lumens at 2700K and 90 CRI, a soft ambient glow. A three-step touch dimmer on the lamp lets you set the level.

Is the bulb replaceable?

The lamp uses a built-in LED module rated for more than 50,000 hours (L70), so there is no bulb to buy or change.

Can I use it outside or in a bathroom?

No. It is intended for indoor use in dry locations.

How long is the cord?

The cord is 6 feet (72 inches) of black cloth cable.

Will the Natural Brass finish change?

Yes. Visual Comfort describes it as a living finish that will patina and warm with age. A brass cleaner can restore it if the patina turns uneven.

Which finish should I choose?

Dark Bronze reads as a graphic, dark tower, Polished Nickel is the brightest and coolest of the three, and Natural Brass warms wood and stone and ages with use.

Why We Love It

Most small lamps hide the light behind a shade. Quoddy lets you see how it is made, layer by layer, and turns the whole stack into the glow.
