Parallel is a table lamp with a cylindrical metal shade wrapped in hammered leather, carried by a slim matt black stem set to one side, designed in 2022 for Oluce by Victor Vasilev.
It comes in 2 finishes: Leather Brown and Leather Sand.
The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, describes Parallel as a lamp made for a wide range of tastes and interiors, from classic to austere. The shade is a metal cylinder that sits to one side of a vertical stem. The stem is made of two matt black metal plates, set apart, that run in parallel from the base up to the shade, which is where the lamp gets its name. The outside of the shade is covered in hammered leather in brown or sand, and the base, stem and closing disk are lacquered matt black. Oluce notes that this is the first time it has used leather in a lamp collection.
The Designers
Victor Vasilev was born in 1974 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, then stayed in Milan and founded his own studio in 2004. He has worked with Boffi, Living Divani, MDF Italia, Antrax IT, Falper and Oluce, and Oluce describes his designs as driven by a constant pursuit of formal and material purity.

How It Was Made
Oluce makes Parallel in Italy from metal and leather. The base, stem and closing disk are lacquered matt black metal, and the reflector, which is the shade, is covered with hammered leather in either leather brown or leather sand. A universal dimmer is included.

Why You’ll Love It
The warm texture of hammered leather gives a small lamp a tactile, quiet presence. The black stem stays graphic and the shade glows softly on a desk or sideboard, and because the lamp is dimmable you can set the light to suit the hour.
Made for Real Life
The lamp takes one E26 bulb of up to 60W. The bulb is not included, so you can pick the warmth and brightness you want. A universal dimmer is included, and the lamp is listed as CE rated. Dust the leather with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water and harsh cleaners. Wipe the metal with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth.
