The Original Iris Table Light is where MacMaster's table lighting began. Launched in 2014 as the first table light in the range, it gathers elegantly curved Iris leaves into a tall, perfectly proportioned form, part lamp and part sculpture.
Alex MacMaster still makes each one by hand in his Worcestershire workshop, in oak or walnut.
“Where timber becomes art.”
The Design Story
Having found the Iris leaf in his floor light, Alex scaled the idea for the tabletop. The leaves rise from a pinned base, swell outward and then draw together again near the top, like a flower bud on the point of opening.

The bulb sits low inside, so light climbs the inner faces of the timber and slips out between the leaves. Each leaf is a birch plywood core from FSC and PEFC certified sources, faced with American white oak or black walnut.
About the Designer
Alex MacMaster founded MacMaster Design in 2009 on a simple belief: that the objects we live with every day deserve the care usually kept for fine art. He works from a studio in the Worcestershire countryside, at The Guildings in Trimpley near Bewdley, and designs and builds each piece himself, from the first sketch to the final finish.
His work draws on Art Deco geometry, the organic forms of plants and flowers, and the quiet beauty of timber grain. Design, development, making and packing all happen under one roof, and offcuts from one range feed the next, so very little goes to waste. MacMaster pieces now light private homes, luxury hotels and flagship stores across the UK, Europe and beyond.
Why You'll Love It
Tall and slender, it brings height to a bedside or desk without taking up much surface. The light is warm and ambient, and the silhouette is so clean that it looks at home in both minimal and traditional rooms.
Where It's Best Placed
Alex designed it to work as a bedside lamp, a desk lamp or a living room table light. Pairs on matching nightstands are especially elegant, as is a single lamp on a pedestal by a window.

Questions We Hear Most
Why is it called the Original Iris Table Light?
It was the first table light in the MacMaster range, launched by Alex MacMaster in 2014. The newer Iris Table Light has a freer, flared form; this is the classic, tulip-shaped original.
How tall is the Original Iris Table Light?
It stands 89 cm (35 in) high with a diameter of 37.5 cm (14.5 in), so it adds real height to a nightstand, desk or side table.
Can I use the Original Iris Table Light as a bedside lamp?
Yes. Alex designed it to work as a bedside lamp, a desk lamp or a living room table light, and it looks especially good as a matching pair either side of a bed.
Is the Original Iris Table Light wired for U.S. outlets?
Yes. It is supplied for 120 V with an E26 lampholder, a 98 in (2.5 m) fabric-covered cord, a foot switch and a plug, all with CE/UL rated components. Use an LED or CFL bulb of up to 20 W (not included).
What is the difference between the oak and walnut versions?
Oak is pale and fresh with a lively grain; walnut is darker and warmer. Both are real timber veneers over a certified birch plywood core.
How long does the Original Iris Table Light take to arrive?
Every Original Iris Table Light is made for you by hand in Worcestershire, England. Allow about 4 to 8 weeks for it to be shaped, finished and packed in the workshop, plus shipping time to you. Nothing comes off a shelf, so the piece that arrives was made with your order in mind.
