Midrand 4 Task Sconce by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort

The Midrand 4 Task Sconce by Sean Lavin is a modern LED wall sconce. A black steel cone tilts out from a round backplate, a small, graphic wall light only 3.5 inches wide. It comes in Nightshade Black.

The Design Story

Visual Comfort traces the Midrand collection to the silhouette of the conical Grand Central Water Tower near Johannesburg in South Africa. Sean Lavin turned that form into geometric, streamlined metal shapes, and here the cone becomes a small, tilted wall shade on a round backplate. The result is a compact task light with a strong outline and an unexpectedly soft, inviting glow.

Why You'll Love It

Midrand 4 Task Sconce is made for the places where you want light right where you read, write or work: either side of a bed, over a desk, beside a mirror or along a hallway. It is 3.5 inches wide, 3.3 inches tall and 3.8 inches deep, and it weighs 3 lbs. The integrated LED gives 414 lumens at 2700K and 90 CRI, and it dims on 0-10V, ELV and Triac dimmers.

Built for Damp Locations

Midrand 4 Task Sconce is ETL listed, and Visual Comfort lists it for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover, such as a covered porch or an open-air pavilion. The light source is an integrated LED, so there are no bulbs to replace. It is Title 24 compliant.

Where It Shines

Beside a bed as a reading light, over a desk, beside a bath mirror, along a hallway, or on a covered porch or patio.

Who This Is Not For

Midrand 4 Task Sconce is a small, single-light sconce, so it is not for someone who wants broad, room-filling light from one fixture. It is a task and accent light, best used in pairs or alongside other light in the room.
