Mami is a horizontal suspension with white blown-glass bodies along a slim metal bar, designed in 2013 for Penta by Umberto Asnago.

This horizontal suspension comes with a matt black or brushed bronze metal structure, in 3000K or 2700K light.

The Design Story

Penta calls Mami an elegant, versatile collection halfway between design and art. Its white oval blown-glass body is reimagined with a modernist touch, which makes refined pendant compositions with a sculptural presence over a table or in a large room.

The Story

Penta works in borosilicate glass, the same family of glass used for laboratory ware. It is resistant to thermal shock, expands only about one third as much as ordinary soda-lime glass, withstands temperatures of about 500°C (932°F) and stands up well to chemicals. Each piece is shaped by hand with burners, which is why no two shades are exactly alike.

The Designer

Umberto Asnago has given his working life to design and planning. After holding important positions at Giorgetti, he committed himself fully to design in 2006 and became one of Penta’s historic names. With his long experience and refined creative toolbox, he has created many of the iconic collections in the Penta catalog.

How It Was Made

Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Mami’s structure is metal, in matt black or brushed bronze, and its bodies are acid-etched borosilicate glass in white. The light source is an integrated 33W LED.
