The Lily Floor Light is MacMaster at its most dramatic. Towering to 7 ft, its full, floral form carries its scale with real grace, turning a tall room, a stair hall or a double-height space into a setting for one remarkable object.
Alex MacMaster launched the Lily in 2021. Each one is made by hand to order in his Worcestershire workshop, in walnut or oak.
“Where timber becomes art.”
The Design Story
The Lily began with a question of scale: how to make a light big enough to hold its own in the largest interiors without losing elegance. Alex answered with a cluster of long, gently swelling leaves that rise from a round base and open at the top like a lily in flower.

The secret is on the inside. The inner faces of the leaves are painted white, so the light bounces from leaf to leaf before it reaches the room. The result is a warm, even glow that lights up the grain of the walnut or oak from within. The leaves are birch plywood from FSC and PEFC certified forests, faced with American black walnut or American white oak veneer.
About the Designer
Alex MacMaster founded MacMaster Design in 2009 on a simple belief: that the objects we live with every day deserve the care usually kept for fine art. He works from a studio in the Worcestershire countryside, at The Guildings in Trimpley near Bewdley, and designs and builds each piece himself, from the first sketch to the final finish.
His work draws on Art Deco geometry, the organic forms of plants and flowers, and the quiet beauty of timber grain. Design, development, making and packing all happen under one roof, and offcuts from one range feed the next, so very little goes to waste. MacMaster pieces now light private homes, luxury hotels and flagship stores across the UK, Europe and beyond.
Why You'll Love It
Few lights change a room the way the Lily does. Switched off, it is a tall timber sculpture with the presence of a work of art. Switched on, it glows softly from within, and the white inner faces make the timber look almost luminous. It is a confident choice for anyone who wants one statement piece rather than many small ones.
Where It's Best Placed
The Large stands 85 in tall and 19 in at its widest, so it needs height around it: a double-height living room, a stairwell, a hotel lobby, a gallery wall or the end of a long corridor. Set it near a wall or in a corner so the glow reflects back into the space. A smaller Lily is also made for rooms with standard ceilings.

Alex MacMaster designed the Lily Floor Light and launched it in 2021. It is made by hand in his workshop in Worcestershire, England.
Why are the inside faces of the Lily Floor Light white?
The inner faces of the leaves are painted white so the light bounces between them before it leaves the lamp. That reflected light gives the walnut or oak a warm glow from within.
How tall is the Lily Floor Light?
The Large stands 85 in (215 cm) tall and measures 19 in (48 cm) at its widest. A Small version of the same design is also made; the maker does not publish its exact dimensions, so ask us if you need them before ordering.
Which rooms suit the Lily Floor Light?
The Large is designed for generous spaces: double-height rooms, stairwells, lobbies and long galleries. The Small suits rooms with standard ceilings while keeping the same floral form.
Is the Lily Floor Light wired for the United States?
Yes. The maker supplies a 120 V version with an E26 lampholder, a 59 in (1.5 m) black fabric cord, a foot switch and a plug, all CE/UL rated. Use an LED bulb of up to 20 W; the bulb is not included.
