Ivy is a sculptural pendant of curved bronze arms that reach out like new shoots, each ending in a glass globe, made by CTO Lighting of London. It comes in 3 forms: Ivy 3, with 3 globes and 52.4 in across; Ivy Vertical 4, with 4 globes and 49.2 in high; and Ivy 8, with 8 globes and 70.9 in across.

It comes in bronze with satin brass details, with a choice of shiny opal glass or smoked glass globes.

The Design Story

CTO took Ivy from the green spaces in the heart of London: new spring plants growing organically toward the light. Curved bronze arms reach out across the room, each ending in a glass globe, in compositions that feel less static than a usual pendant. Ivy comes as a horizontal spread of 3 globes, a vertical form of 4 and a wide spread of 8.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every Ivy light to order in England. Curved bronze arms with satin brass details each carry a globe of shiny opal glass or smoked glass, and CTO makes the suspension to the overall drop you specify.

The Finishes

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.

Shiny Opal Glass. Opal glass has a soft translucency that diffuses the light evenly and hides the bulb, with a smooth, glossy surface.

Smoked Glass. A smokey tint softens the light output and gives a warm, diffused, atmospheric glow, with small variations in shape and color from piece to piece.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V versions take E12 bulbs of 25W maximum each, or 4.5W LED bulbs at 2700K: 3 in the Ivy 3, 4 in the Ivy Vertical 4 and 8 in the Ivy 8. They dim on a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer with a dimmable bulb. CTO makes each one to the overall drop you specify when you order, and the drop cannot be adjusted on site. They weigh 11 lb, 13.2 lb and 26.5 lb, and CTO asks you to check that the ceiling can carry the load. All are IP20 for dry indoor rooms. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives.

CTO lists the Ivy 3 at 52.4 in wide, 15.7 in deep and 13.8 in high (1330 x 400 x 350 mm), the Ivy Vertical 4 at 29.5 in wide, 15.7 in deep and 49.2 in high (750 x 400 x 1250 mm) and the Ivy 8 at 70.9 in wide, 39.4 in deep and 16.5 in high (1800 x 1000 x 420 mm). Each is made to your overall drop, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the fitting.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Ivy dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimming as standard for the 110-130V version, and calls for a dimmable bulb. DALI is listed only for 220-240V.

What do Ivy 3, Ivy Vertical 4 and Ivy 8 mean?

The numbers are the globe count: 3, 4 or 8. Ivy 3 is a horizontal spread 52.4 in (1330 mm) wide. Ivy Vertical 4 is a tall form 49.2 in (1250 mm) high and 29.5 in (750 mm) wide. Ivy 8 is the widest at 70.9 in (1800 mm) across and 39.4 in (1000 mm) deep.

How far does it hang?

CTO makes each Ivy to the overall drop you specify, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the fitting, and it cannot be adjusted on site. The shortest drops are 24.6 in (625 mm) for the Ivy 3, 51 in (1295 mm) for the Ivy Vertical 4 and 27.4 in (695 mm) for the Ivy 8. Tell us the drop you need when you order.

What bulbs does it take?

Each globe takes an E12 bulb of up to 25W, or a 4.5W LED bulb at 2700K. The Ivy 3 has 3, the Ivy Vertical 4 has 4 and the Ivy 8 has 8. Use dimmable bulbs if you plan to dim it.

How heavy is it?

The Ivy 3 weighs 11 lb (5 kg), the Ivy Vertical 4 weighs 13.2 lb (6 kg) and the Ivy 8 weighs 26.5 lb (12 kg). CTO notes that the ceiling structure must be able to carry it.

What is the difference between opal and smoked glass?

Shiny opal glass is white and diffuses the light evenly. Smoked glass has a gray tint that softens the light and gives a warm, atmospheric glow, with small variations in shape and color from globe to globe.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If a mark remains on the metal or the glass, use a slightly damp lint-free cloth, then dry it with a soft dry one. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners.
