Seat upholstery. Faux leather is the entry seat. PPM and PPM-FR are polyurethane performance leathers, nubuck is a soft brushed fabric and the off-white boucle is a looped fabric. Camira Era is a woven contract fabric, Camira Blazer is a wool cloth, and the caramel option is full-grain Italian leather. Screens show color slightly differently than real life.

Drawn by Tayfur Ozkaynak for sohoConcept, the Gazel Carrot Swivel Dining Chair treats a dining chair as something to be looked at as much as used, built around an upholstered shell on tapered metal legs. The construction is contract grade, so it is as suited to a busy restaurant as to a dining room.

The Design Story

sohoConcept was founded in 2000 around a short brief: design down to the essentials, and let long-term durability and quality show through a clean-lined form language. The same pieces are made for homes and for contract interiors, and the studio's work has furnished W Hotels and the Paramount Hotel in New York, The Atlantis in the Bahamas and the CN Tower in Toronto.

Inside, the dining chair is built on a steel frame with S-shaped springs, molded in injected polyurethane foam. The base is swivel with a solid metal top piece and four tapered tubular legs, black with brass or walnut with polished stainless steel; plastic glides screwed into each foot. Each one is made in Türkiye. Tayfur Ozkaynak designed the Gazel for sohoConcept and offers the one silhouette on a choice of bases and heights, so the same design can carry from a dining room to a kitchen counter or a lounge.

About the Designer

Tayfur Ozkaynak designed many of the chairs and stools in the sohoConcept collection. The Gazel Carrot Swivel Dining Chair is one of them, and, like his other work for the studio, it pairs a carefully shaped seat with a choice of bases and heights so a single silhouette can run through a whole project.

Living With It

Clean leather-look and leather seats with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry them. Vacuum woven fabrics with a soft brush attachment and blot spills straight away; never rub. Keep wood away from direct heat and sun, and dust it with a dry cloth. Wipe metal with a dry microfiber cloth; skip scouring pads.
