Seat upholstery. Faux leather is the entry option. PPM is a polyurethane performance leather, PPM-FR is its flame-retardant version, nubuck is a soft brushed finish, and the off-white and blue Camira Yoredale seats are boucle weaves. Camira Era is a woven contract fabric, Camira Blazer is a wool contract fabric, and the caramel seat is full-grain Italian leather. Screens show color slightly differently than real life.

Base finishes

The Gazel Arm Pyramid Wood Swivel Counter or Bar Stool by Tayfur Ozkaynak is sohoConcept's take on the stool as a crafted object: an arms, solid wood base. It is built to contract standards, for homes as well as restaurants and hotels.

The Design Story

Since 2000, sohoConcept has worked from one idea: strip a piece back to what matters, then build it to last. That clean-lined language is equally at home in a residence or a hotel; the studio's furniture has been specified for W Hotels New York, Aloft Brooklyn and the Delta Hotels in Toronto.

Inside, the stool is built on a steel frame with S-shaped springs, molded injected polyurethane foam. The base is solid wood pyramid legs in beech (walnut finish) or natural ash with chrome footrest, or American walnut with white mechanism and chrome footrest or black mechanism and gold footrest. Tayfur Ozkaynak designed the Gazel for sohoConcept and offers the one silhouette on a choice of bases and heights, so the same design can carry from a dining room to a kitchen counter or a lounge.

About the Designer

Tayfur Ozkaynak designed many of the chairs and stools in the sohoConcept collection. The Gazel Arm Pyramid Wood Swivel Counter or Bar Stool is one of them, and, like his other work for the studio, it pairs a carefully shaped seat with a choice of bases and heights so a single silhouette can run through a whole project.

Where It's Best Placed

At a kitchen island, a home bar or a café counter, where its profile is seen from every side.

Living With It

Clean leather-look and leather seats with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry them. Vacuum woven fabrics with a soft brush attachment and blot spills straight away; never rub. Keep wood away from direct heat and sun, and dust it with a dry cloth. Wipe metal with a dry microfiber cloth; skip scouring pads.
