The FontanaArte Ashangai Table Lamp is a 1955 design by Max Ingrand: five transparent borosilicate glass tubes joined by chrome-plated brass fittings form an intersecting base that supports a white shade. It gives diffused, dimmable light.

This extremely elegant table lamp was designed by Max Ingrand in 1955, during the period when this French maestro was artistic director at FontanaArte.

The Design Story

Chromed brass joints hold together five tubes made of transparent borosilicate glass that form a series of intersections supporting the lamp. Ingrand designed it in 1955, while he was artistic director of FontanaArte.

About the Designer

Max Ingrand, designer of the FontanaArte Ashangai lamp

Max Ingrand was a famous French master glass worker and decorator, and artistic director of FontanaArte for one decade, starting from 1954. During that time he came up with true design classics, such as the Fontana table lamp, still one of the best selling products for the company that bears its name. He studied at the school of Fine Arts in Paris and specialised in the decorative arts under major artists such as Jacques Grüber and Charles Lemaresquier. He produced a great number of stained glass panels for religious buildings, hotels and public places, and was awarded the French Legion of Honour.
