Drop is the tall, slender Scraplights shape, and in a cluster the pendants fall like raindrops from a single round canopy. Choose three (two Drop 18 and a Drop 22) for an entry or reading corner, or five (two Drop 18, two Drop 22 and one Drop 26) for a stair hall or double-height space. It is sold complete in Natural, White or Blonde.

Graypants started with two Seattle architects, Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, and a pile of cardboard scraps. Today they work from Seattle and Amsterdam, and Drop shows how far that idea has traveled: a graceful vertical form made from the humblest of materials. "When something is made by hand, you can feel the life and soul that went into it," Grizzle told WeWork Ideas, and a cluster of Drops, each assembled by hand, is a good place to feel it.

How It Is Made

Drop shades are laser-cut from recycled corrugated cardboard and layered by hand with non-toxic adhesive, then treated with a fire retardant. The tall profile means the stacked edge draws long vertical lines of light. In a cluster, the pendants hang from one aluminum round canopy at different heights, so the tallest and shortest Drops stagger into a cascade.

Each pendant is wired as on its single-pendant version: one E26 socket for an LED bulb of up to 15W (bulbs not included), 2700K warm white recommended, 120V, for dry locations. The cluster mounts to the ceiling or hangs from aircraft cable, so please have a qualified electrician plan the ceiling support.

Not the Right Fit If

Drop clusters are made to order and ship in about 6 weeks, so they are not for projects needing lighting within days. They are available on the round canopy only, so for a long table look at our linear cluster pages. Because the pendants are tall (up to 26 in), they need ceiling height to hang well. Dry, indoor locations only.

Questions We Hear Most

Should I choose three or five pendants?

Three (two Drop 18 and one Drop 22) suits an entry, reading corner or small dining table. Five (two Drop 18, two Drop 22 and one Drop 26) is a statement for stair halls, double-height rooms and larger tables.

What is different between Natural, White and Blonde?

Natural shows the warm brown of raw cardboard and comes with a black canopy and black cord. White and Blonde come with a white canopy and white cord. The shapes are identical.

How big is the canopy, and does the five-pendant version need a larger one?

The round canopy is 2 in (5.1 cm) deep. Three-pendant clusters are available on 15, 24 or 32 in (38, 61 or 81 cm) canopies, and we show 24 in as standard. Graypants lists five-pendant clusters on a 32 in (81 cm) canopy, and some may fit on 24 in. We confirm the canopy size for your arrangement when you order, and are happy to talk it through beforehand.

How long is the drop, and can I change it?

Standard drop from the ceiling to the bottom of the lowest pendant is 5 ft (152 cm). A custom drop is available at extra cost and lead time. The pendants themselves measure 18, 22 and 26 in high.

How is it mounted?

Surface mounted with the ceiling couplers provided (ceiling anchors are not provided), or hung from the aircraft cable that comes with it. The cord color matches the canopy.

What bulbs do Drops take?
