Disc Cluster Cardboard Pendant Light by Graypants

Disc is the wide, low Scraplights shape, a flat round shade that spreads a soft glow outward. As a cluster, three Discs hung at different heights read like a floating constellation. Choose three matching Discs on a slim linear canopy, or a mixed trio of Disc 16, 20 and 24 on a round canopy. It is sold complete, in Natural, White or Blonde.
Every Disc cluster is made to order by hand, so the piece that arrives is made for your space. It is designer lighting you can afford, in a material built to last.
The Design Story
"It's a material that we respect and honor. There's an honesty behind it, and we've always stayed true to what it is."
Seth Grizzle, Graypants cofounder, speaking to Business of Home about cardboard
Disc is one of the best-known Scraplights, and it shows what Graypants does best: take recycled corrugated cardboard, cut it with precision and let its layered edge be the decoration. Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, the Seattle architects behind the studio, now work from Seattle and Amsterdam, and they have always treated cardboard as a serious material rather than a stand-in for something else.
How It Is Made
Disc shades are laser-cut from recycled cardboard and assembled by hand with non-toxic adhesive, then given a fire-retardant treatment. Their flat profile means the edge, with its fine layered lines, is what you see from below and from across the room. The cluster hangs from one aluminum canopy with each Disc at its own drop, so the sizes overlap and shade each other.
Why You'll Love It
A Disc cluster is a quiet way to make a ceiling feel designed. Three Disc 20 on the linear canopy form a wide, even band over a table, three Disc 16 keep the same idea lighter, and the round Disc 16, 20 and 24 trio gives a graduated, almost planetary composition. Scraplights have lit projects including NBBJ Columbus, Ancestry in Salt Lake City and Pablo y Pablo.
Made for Real Life
Each pendant is wired as on its single-pendant version: one E26 socket for an LED bulb of up to 15W (bulbs not included), 2700K warm white recommended, 120V, for dry locations. The cluster mounts to the ceiling or hangs from aircraft cable, so please have a qualified electrician plan the ceiling support.

Handmade for You
Disc clusters are made to order and assembled by hand, so each one is crafted after you choose it. That care is why every order is final sale, and it is why our team is glad to talk through configuration, finish and placement with you before you order. You are commissioning a handmade fixture, not picking one off a shelf.
Not the Right Fit If
Disc clusters are made to order, so they are not for projects that need lighting within days. The shades are wide and low, so they need some floor-to-ceiling room to hang at varied heights without crowding. There is no five-pendant Disc cluster, so for a larger grouping consider Drop or Bell. Dry, indoor locations only.
Questions We Hear Most
Which Disc cluster configuration should I choose?
For a dining table or kitchen island, choose the linear canopy with 3 x Disc 20 (larger) or 3 x Disc 16. For the center of a room, entry or stair, choose the round canopy with Disc 16, Disc 20 and Disc 24 in one graduated trio.
How do Natural, White and Blonde differ?
Natural shows the warm brown of raw cardboard with a black canopy and cord. White and Blonde come with a white canopy and white cord. Sizes and shapes are the same.
How wide is the cluster?
The Disc pendants measure 17, 20 and 24 in across as printed (43.2, 50.8 and 61 cm) for Disc 16, 20 and 24. The linear canopy is 43.25 in (109.9 cm) long and the round canopy is 24 in (61 cm) across as standard.
How is it hung, and how low does it go?
Surface mounted with provided ceiling couplers (ceiling anchors not provided), or suspended from the aircraft cable that comes with it. Standard drop to the lowest pendant is 5 ft (152 cm) on the round canopy and 3 ft (91 cm) on the linear canopy. Custom drops cost extra and add lead time.
What bulbs does each Disc take?
Each pendant is wired as on its single-pendant version: one E26 socket for an LED bulb up to 15W, 2700K recommended, 120V. Bulbs are not included.
How long will it take?
Disc clusters are made to order, about 6 weeks, and ship from the United States.
Can I use it over a bathtub or outdoors?
No. Disc clusters are rated for dry, indoor locations only.
Why We Love It
A cluster turns one ceiling point into a small landscape of light. It is the Graypants idea at its most generous: an everyday material, shaped by machine and finished by hand, hung together so it feels like more than the sum of its parts.
