Designed by CTO Lighting, London Carbon neutral certified company (certificate, PDF)

The Design Story

CTO took Cubism as its starting point, the early 1900s movement that broke three-dimensional forms into geometric planes and fragments. Like the artwork, the lamp looks good from every angle. The angular bronze base is paired with a linen shade in a rounded pyramid form, a confident statement for a contemporary room.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO's designers modelled the base by hand to get a textured, rhythmic linear pattern that celebrates casting. The metal is poured, cooled and polished, the same process artists have used for generations.

The Finishes

Cast bronze base. The lines of the casting stay visible in the surface, and the polish brings out the warm metal.

White linen shade. A natural, matt fabric in a rounded pyramid shape that softens the light and balances the dark base.

Finish and Material Samples

Bronze finish: dark bronze bands on a CTO Lighting wall light
Bronze. A deep, rich bronze with a darker tone that sits warmly against walls and glass.

Why You’ll Love It

It is a lamp with presence. The shade is wide and light, the base is dark and heavy, and the two together look settled on a console, a sideboard or a bedside table. CTO says the design works in both classic and contemporary interiors and stays beyond trends.

Made for Real Life

The lamp weighs 39.7 lb (18 kg), so set it on a solid surface. The 110-130V version takes one E26 bulb, 60W maximum or an 8W LED at 2700K, and needs a dimmable bulb to dim with the inline dimmer on its 78.7 in (2000 mm) silk braided cord. Bulbs are not included. It is UL listed (E492309). Dust the shade gently with a soft, dry cloth or a lint roller. Wipe the base with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Skip detergents and abrasives. For dry indoor rooms only.

Size in Inches

CTO lists Cubist at 450 mm wide, 450 mm deep and 750 mm high (17.7 in by 17.7 in by 29.5 in). The corner detail on the base plan measures 4.7 in (119 mm).
