The Design Story

Named for the tiered seats of an ancient theater, Cavea is a lantern of slender aluminum ribs that each glow along their full length. Light falls softly down through the opal diffuser and up onto the ceiling, so the lamp is both sculpture and ambient light. Matì designed it for Egoluce in 2025, and it took an Archiproducts Design Award the same year.

Egoluce was founded in 1978 in Pero, just outside Milan, by three friends with a lighting background, and it still makes everything in Italy with local companies and artisans. Special versions and sister products from the Cavea family are available to order through us.

Why You'll Love It

• The thin profile reads as a line of light, not a fixture.
• CRI >90 LEDs keep colors honest, in 2700K or 3000K.
• 3 finishes, from black to eco gold, so it can disappear or be the jewelry.
• Recognized with the Archiproducts Design Awards 2025 (Lighting).
• Ceiling rose with integrated on/off driver (11.8" dia.) comes with it.

Made for Real Life

Think an entry, a stair void, a restaurant table or bar, a hotel lobby; Egoluce hung a row of them under the vaults of Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia for the 2026 awards night. Good to know: an electrician hardwires it; IP20 means dry indoor rooms only; and Egoluce builds it after you order, so count on 9 to 11 weeks.

Questions We Hear Most

When will my Cavea ship?

Every Cavea is built to order at Egoluce's factory in Italy. Please allow 9 to 11 weeks for delivery. We confirm your ship date by email once it is ordered.

Warm or neutral: what light does the Cavea give?

You pick: 2700K is the warmest, like an incandescent bulb; 3000K is a soft warm white that suits most homes. All versions use CRI >90 LEDs.

What are the measurements of the Cavea?

Short: 11.8" dia. × 14.2" tall (30 × 36 cm); Tall: 11.8" dia. × 28" tall (30 × 71 cm). Suspension cable; see the drawing for the canopy. The line drawing in the gallery shows every dimension.

Why is the Cavea getting attention?

It won the Archiproducts Design Awards 2025 (Lighting), per Egoluce and the awards site, and Egoluce chose it to light the Premio Ghislieri 2026 ceremony in Pavia.

Does the Cavea work with a dimmer?

It does not: the ceiling rose has an on/off driver, so Egoluce lists Cavea as not dimmable.

Is the Cavea made in Italy?

Yes. Egoluce has made 100% Made-in-Italy lighting near Milan since 1978, working with Italian companies and artisans. The Cavea was designed by Matì in 2025.

What do I need to install the Cavea?

A ceiling junction box and an electrician: it is hardwired, and the canopy with driver is included.

Why We Love It

LoftModern is an authorized Egoluce retailer. We like makers who build things to be lived with: Egoluce puts a heat sink in every fixture so the LEDs last, makes the LED unit replaceable, and has been doing it the same way near Milan since 1978.
