Catena 241 Chandelier by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort

The Catena 241 Chandelier by Sean Lavin is the longest Catena chandelier: a chain of faceted crystal bars and brass connectors more than twenty feet long, swagged between two canopies. Forty-seven integrated LEDs run through the links, so a grand stairwell or atrium gets a single, continuous line of light. Choose Bronze, Polished Nickel or Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass, 2700K or 3000K, and the driver that suits your ceiling.

The Design Story

Sean Lavin named the Catena series after the Italian word for chain link. Each link is a rectangular crystal cradled in screwless solid brass, and electricity flows through the connectors themselves, so the same links can be built into chandeliers, pendants and sconces. The idea is stretched here into a long, draped line that works as sculpture first and lighting second.

Why You'll Love It

Catena 241 is made for the tallest spaces, where an ordinary chandelier would look lost. The 47 dedicated LEDs sit inside the crystal links, so there are no lamps to hide and no shades to block the line. At 2700K it delivers 4780 lumens from 69.6 watts at 90 CRI, a real presence in a big volume. It dims on ELV and TRIAC dimmers, and at about 44 lbs it hangs from two canopies, so confirm the ceiling structure with your installer.

Built for Damp Locations

Catena 241 is ETL listed and rated for indoor damp locations and for outdoor spaces under cover, such as a covered porch or an open-air pavilion. The brass frame with crystal links is built to last, the LED is rated for 50,000 hours to L70, and Visual Comfort backs it with a 5 year warranty. It also meets Title 24.

Where It Shines

In a multi-story stairwell, an atrium, a grand entry hall, a hotel or restaurant lobby, or a tall covered outdoor space.

Who This Is Not For

Catena 241 needs over twenty feet of ceiling height, so it is for rare, tall spaces only. At about 44 lbs it also needs proper structural support at both canopies. It is an ambient and decorative fixture, so plan other lighting for tasks.

Questions We Hear Most

What do the driver options mean?

Remote 120V and Remote 277V use a separate driver at the ceiling, matched to your supply voltage. Surface 120-277V Universal uses a driver mounted on the surface of the ceiling and works on either voltage.

Can I dim it?

Yes. It is rated for ELV and TRIAC dimmers.

How long is the chain?

The overall height is 241.7 inches, and each link is about 0.9 inches wide and 0.8 inches deep.

Can I use it outdoors?

It is rated for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover. It is not for fully exposed outdoor use.

What is the light color?

Choose 2700K for a warm glow or 3000K for a slightly crisper warm white. Both have a 90 CRI.

Can it go on a sloped ceiling?

Yes, up to a 45 degree slope.

Why We Love It

Catena 241 is architecture as lighting: a long, luminous gesture that gives a tall space its focal point.
