The Catena 103 Chandelier by Sean Lavin is a chandelier that looks more like a piece of jewelry than a fixture: a single chain of faceted crystal bars, joined by brass connectors, drawn out to 103 inches and left to droop in a deep curve between two canopies. The Design Story

Sean Lavin named the Catena series after the Italian word for chain link. Each link is a rectangular crystal cradled in screwless solid brass, and electricity flows through the connectors themselves, so the same links can be built into chandeliers, pendants and sconces. The idea is stretched here into a long, draped line that works as sculpture first and lighting second.

Who This Is Not For

If your ceiling is low, a 103 inch chain will not fit. It is also an accent and ambient fixture, not a spotlight, so plan task lighting where you need it. The remote driver also needs a place to live, such as a nearby junction box.

Remote 120V and Remote 277V use a separate driver at the ceiling, matched to your supply voltage. Surface 120-277V Universal uses a driver mounted on the surface of the ceiling and works on either voltage.

How long is the chain?
