The Caspe Alabaster 7 Rechargeable Table Lamp by Sean Lavin is a small cylinder of veined alabaster with a metal collar, a cordless light that glows from within the stone. It stands 6.6 inches tall and 4.8 inches across, charges over USB-C and has a touch dimmer for three light levels.
The collar comes in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass, Bronze or Polished Nickel, and the alabaster diffuser can face up or down.
The Design Story
Sean Lavin designs lighting by working with light, form and material, drawing on art, architecture, travel and technology. Caspe is described by Visual Comfort as having the aesthetic of a modern art object, with a minimalist form that sets classic materials side by side. In this version the material is alabaster, a soft, translucent stone that has been carved into lamps and lanterns for centuries. Here it is shaped into a clean cylinder and capped with a plain metal collar, so the stone and its veining do all the decorating.

Where It Shines
On a bookshelf, a bedside table, a side table, a console or a desk, or on a dining table where a small, warm light can be moved from one setting to the next.
Who This Is Not For
Caspe Alabaster 7 is an accent light. At 119 lumens it will not light a page for reading, and it is not a main light for a room. It is rated for indoor, dry locations, so keep it off a patio or a bathroom counter. The battery is sealed and not replaceable.
Questions We Hear Most
Will my alabaster look like the photos?
Similar, but not identical. Alabaster is natural stone, so the color and veining differ from piece to piece.
How do I charge it?
Plug the supplied USB-C cord into a USB charging port. Visual Comfort's instructions say a full charge takes about five hours, and an indicator light beside the port shows red when it needs charging, flashing green while charging and solid green when full.
Can I replace the battery?
No. The battery is a 3.8V, 7000 mAh pack that is not replaceable, and the LED module is built in, so there is no bulb to change.
How bright is it?
It delivers 119 lumens at 2700K and 90 CRI, a soft accent glow. A three-step touch dimmer on the lamp sets the level, drawing about 0.6 W on low and 2.4 W on high.
What does it mean that the diffuser can face up or down?
The lamp can stand on either end, with the metal collar on top or with the alabaster on top.
Which finish should I choose?
Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass is the warmest against the stone, Bronze gives the strongest contrast, and Polished Nickel keeps the look light and cool.
