The Bluebell Pendant Light brings an English woodland flower indoors. Slender timber petals drop from a fine stem and flare outward at their tips, forming a bell that glows warmly from inside.
Alex MacMaster launched the Bluebell in 2019. It is handmade in England in oak or walnut, in three sizes from a 10.2 in Mini to a 21.5 in Large.
“Where timber becomes art.”
The Design Story
The bluebell is one of Britain's best-loved wild flowers, and Alex's version keeps its essential gesture: a nodding bell with curled-back petal tips. Each petal is cut and shaped from certified birch plywood faced with oak or walnut, using traditional hand methods for a clean, flawless finish.
The Bluebell is a statement on its own, but it was also designed to be grouped. Hung at random heights, or arranged in a spiral beneath a vaulted ceiling, a group of Bluebells becomes a floating meadow of light.
About the Designer
Alex MacMaster founded MacMaster Design in 2009 on a simple belief: that the objects we live with every day deserve the care usually kept for fine art. He works from a studio in the Worcestershire countryside, at The Guildings in Trimpley near Bewdley, and designs and builds each piece himself, from the first sketch to the final finish.
His work draws on Art Deco geometry, the organic forms of plants and flowers, and the quiet beauty of timber grain. Design, development, making and packing all happen under one roof, and offcuts from one range feed the next, so very little goes to waste. MacMaster pieces now light private homes, luxury hotels and flagship stores across the UK, Europe and beyond.
Why You'll Love It
It brings nature into a room without feeling rustic, so it sits as comfortably in a contemporary kitchen as in a period home. The petals catch light along their edges, and from below you look straight into a warm, glowing bloom. Three sizes make it easy to build a cluster with real depth.
Where It's Best Placed
The maker suggests the Bluebell for living rooms, dining rooms, kitchen islands and bedrooms. A single Large makes a centrepiece over a table; Minis and Smalls look lovely in a row over an island or in a cluster in a stairwell or under a vaulted roof.

Questions We Hear Most
What flower inspired the Bluebell Pendant Light?
The English bluebell. Alex MacMaster took its nodding bell and curled-back petal tips and rebuilt them in thin, hand-shaped timber.
How do I arrange several Bluebell Pendant Lights?
Hang them at random heights for a natural cluster, or in a spiral beneath a vaulted ceiling, as the maker suggests. Mixing the Mini, Small and Large sizes gives a group more depth.
What sizes does the Bluebell Pendant Light come in?
Mini is 10.2 in (26 cm) wide and high, Small is 14 in (36 cm) and Large is 21.5 in (55 cm). Each size comes in oak or walnut.
Does the Bluebell Pendant Light suit a modern kitchen?
Yes. The maker recommends it for kitchen islands as well as living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, and its clean timber petals sit well in contemporary and traditional rooms alike.
Is the Bluebell Pendant Light made for U.S. electrical systems?
Yes. It is supplied for 120 V with an E26 lampholder and a 39.4 in (1 m) black fabric cord, with CE/UL rated parts. Use an LED bulb of up to 20 W; the bulb is not included.
How soon will my Bluebell Pendant Light be ready?
Each Bluebell Pendant Light is made to order by hand in Worcestershire, England. Allow about 4 to 8 weeks for it to be shaped, assembled and finished in the workshop, plus shipping time to you. The wait is part of what you are buying: a light made for your home, not taken from a shelf.
