The Design Story
Basic-Max is Maxim's workhorse, and its cleverness is in the install: it can close-mount tight to the ceiling, hang on its standard stem, or drop on an optional rod up to 72 inches long. Five reversible blades in two-tone wood finishes let one fan suit two looks, and the clean housing fits easily into a transitional room.

Maxim posts an instruction sheet for each version: No light (PDF), 4-light LED bulb kit (PDF). We recommend a qualified electrician for the install. A ceiling fan must hang from a fan-rated electrical box.

Where It Shines
In bedrooms, living rooms, family rooms and kitchens, where moving air makes a room feel several degrees cooler in summer, and the reverse setting pushes warm air down from the ceiling in winter. A fan with a light also replaces the ceiling fixture, so one box does both jobs.

What size room is the Basic-Max fan right for?
Its 52 in span suits rooms of about 144 to 225 sq ft or a little more, such as most bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms.
Will it work with my ceiling height?
On a standard 9 ft ceiling the fan hangs on its short rod; on taller ceilings, add a longer downrod so the blades sit about 8 to 9 ft above the floor. Maxim downrods are sold separately.
How do I control it?
It comes with a pull chain. Maxim also sells wall controls and remotes separately.
Does it have a light?
Yes, an LED light is built in on the light versions; some versions use LED bulbs, which are included.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
It is rated for dry, indoor locations. For a covered porch, choose a damp-rated fan; for open patios, a wet-rated fan.
