The Design Story
“To find out how to produce such a thin and light ring we turned to bicycle manufacturers, and the result was this very light luminous profile and an almost invisible lamp.” – Ernesto Gismondi Discovery is a family of appliances based on minimal geometry. A very light aluminum ring houses an LED strip that injects light into a specially worked surface of transparent PMMA.
Meet the Designer
Ernesto Gismondi (1931–2020), an aeronautical engineer by training, founded Artemide in 1960 with Sergio Mazza and led it for six decades, turning it into one of the world's leading lighting companies. He also designed many Artemide lamps himself, and in 2018 he received a Compasso d'Oro career award.

We keep coming back to the Discovery Wall & Ceiling Light for true-to-life color (90+ CRI) and easy dimming. Designed by Ernesto Gismondi, and a Compasso d'Oro ADI winner.
Perfect for hallways, bedrooms, offices and living rooms that need clean, even ambient light.
Maybe not for bathrooms, showers, covered porches or outdoor spaces: it is rated IP20 for dry indoor locations.
Our pick: Black, for built-in LED, no bulbs needed and a warm-but-clear 3000K glow. That version ships from Artemide in 2–4 weeks.
