Hail is a pendant with a long, slim metal stem that opens into the shape of a little bell, designed in 2023 for Penta by Bartoli Design.
It comes in 3 matt metal finishes: Gold, Black and Bronze, with a choice of 3000K or 2700K light.
The Design Story
Penta conceived Hail as an evolution of its Wonder and Storm collections. It is a ceiling lamp that sends directional light downward, with a minimal, well-balanced shape that can be used on its own or repeated in free, multiple configurations. Penta designs and makes its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy.
The Designer
Bartoli Design is the studio of Paolo and Anna Bartoli, who carry on the design work Carlo Bartoli began in 1960. The studio’s approach rests on simplicity and balance, from the first concept through product development and communication, and it also takes on architecture, exhibition, interior and urban design. It has worked with makers such as Arflex, Kartell, Kristalia and Segis. The R606Uno chair for Segis won the XXI Compasso d’Oro ADI in 2008, and the Gaia armchair for Arflex belongs to the permanent design collection of MoMA in New York. Hail is the studio’s 2023 design for Penta.

How It Was Made
Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Hail’s structure is metal, finished matt in gold, black or bronze, and the light source is an integrated 4W LED.

Why You’ll Love It
The stem is only 1.4 in (3.5 cm) across and the whole lamp is 16.5 in (42 cm) tall, so it reads as a thin line ending in a small bell that throws light straight down. Matt gold and matt bronze keep it warm, and matt black makes it graphic. It looks right alone over a bedside or in a long row over a counter. The 4W LED has a CRI of 90 and comes in 3000K or 2700K.
Made for Real Life
The 4W LED is built in, so there is no bulb to buy or change. The cable is 4 m (about 13 ft) long, which gives room for tall stairwells and high ceilings. Dimming and switching depend on the canopy you choose. Penta lists type B canopies in on-off, 0-10V, DALI and phase-cut versions, so please confirm the canopy with us before you order.

How big is the Hail pendant?
It is 16.5 in (42 cm) tall and 1.4 in (3.5 cm) across the stem. The canopy is 4.4 in (11 cm) across and 1.3 in (3.3 cm) high, and the cable is 4 m (about 13 ft).
Should I choose 3000K or 2700K for Hail?
Both are warm white. 2700K is softer and more golden, which suits bedrooms and dining spaces, while 3000K is slightly clearer and works well in kitchens.
Which direction does the light go?
Hail gives downward directional light from the bell at the end of the stem.
Can Hail be dimmed?
Dimming comes from the canopy. Penta lists type B canopies for on-off, 0-10V, DALI and phase-cut control, so please confirm your choice with us before you order.
Can I replace the bulb?
The 4W LED is integrated into the lamp. Penta publishes light engine replacement instructions, linked above.
