Coupe in its arched wall version reaches out on a long chromium-plated arc, with a rotating dome in lacquered metal and aluminum, designed by Joe Colombo for Oluce in 1967.
It comes in 2 finishes: Black and White.
The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, extended the Coupe mechanism onto a long reach: the arc carries the dome well out from the wall, and the same simple pivot lets the beam be aimed up, down or sideways.
The Story
The Coupe series was initially conceived as a variation of the Spider family, also designed by Colombo, from which it kept its base and stem. A simple, ingenious mechanism connects the stem to the dome, letting the beam be directed up, down or sideways. Available with either a semi-cylindrical or a semi-spherical dome, the collection grew over the years into table, floor and wall lamps, and remains one of Oluce’s most renowned and appreciated designs.
The Designers
Joe Colombo was one of the major Italian designers of the postwar years and died in 1971 at the age of 41. Oluce describes his work as an optimistic look toward the future rather than a nostalgic one. He designed integrated living cells such as Visiona ’69 for Bayer and compact self-contained objects such as the Mini-Kitchen of 1963. His other works include the Bobby cart and the Elda armchair (both 1970), a chair for Kartell (1968) and the mp lamp (1972).

Awards and Recognition
Coupe won the International Design Award of the American Institute of Interior Designers in Chicago in 1968, and it is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Neue Sammlung in Munich.

Why You’ll Love It
The long arc puts the light exactly where it is needed, over a bed, a sofa or a reading chair, while the dome still pivots to aim the beam precisely.
Made for Real Life
It takes one E26 bulb up to 100W (bulb not included). The lamp is not dimmable and is CE rated. Wipe the lacquered metal and chrome with a soft dry cloth and skip abrasive or solvent cleaners.
