The Design Story

For red wine, Martens enlarged the BELO outline until the bowl became almost a cone on a stem: broad at the bottom, narrow at the lip. Martens, born in 1987, trained in Halle, Germany, as an industrial designer focused on glass and ceramics, which makes BELO home ground for her. Her work looks for balance: quiet forms, lasting colors, materials allowed to show what they are.

BELO is blown by mouth, one piece at a time, into a tapered tulip silhouette: a wide, low shoulder that narrows to a fine cut-and-polished rim. Look closely and you may find a flow line or a pinpoint bubble, the signature of handmade glass. It comes in Clear and in two tints, Smoke (a smoky gray) and Coffee (a warm brown); on stemware the tint stops at the bowl, and stem and foot stay clear.

Why You’ll Love It

A normal pour sits low in the big bowl, with plenty of room to swirl. The fine rim feels precise. In Smoke or Coffee the glass looks dramatic even when empty. On a set table, the tall stems add height beside low stoneware.

Dishwasher safe, according to blomus. Our advice: give handmade glass room on the top rack or wash it by hand, and dry with a lint-free cloth. Because each piece is blown by hand, small flow lines, tiny bubbles and slight variations in thickness and tint are normal. Pairs well with the spritz glasses, sparkling flutes, wine tower.
