Alba is a floor lamp with two polished opaline glass spheres on a tall rectangular stem, designed by Mariana Pellegrino Soto for Oluce in 2017.
It comes in 2 finishes: satin brass and anodic bronze, both with polished opaline glass spheres.
The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, built the Alba family around a drop of water, which the designer shapes differently from model to model. In the floor lamp, a large rectangular-section stem in satin brass rises from an anthracite base, and arms branch off from the top with opaline spheres suspended underneath. This model carries two lights. Soft, natural forms meet square lines, so the lamp reads as both light and sculpture.
The Designers
Mariana Pellegrino Soto grew up in Caracas and studied product design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. Her thesis project was developed together with Oluce, which led to her work for the company. In 2016 she won the Best Packaging Award at the Global Bottled Water Awards for a bottle design. She now works at F&N Compositi.
“the designer’s imagination was inspired by a drop of water”

How It Was Made
Oluce makes the Alba floor lamp in Italy from metal and polished opaline blown glass. The spheres give a soft, diffused light, and the stem is finished in satin brass or anodic bronze. The lamp ships in 2 cartons.

Why You’ll Love It
Alba lights a corner without filling it. Two glowing spheres hang beside a sofa or an armchair and give a soft, layered light, while the slim brass stem keeps the footprint small. A universal dimmer is included, so you can set the light for reading or for a quiet evening.
Made for Real Life
The lamp takes two E26 bulbs up to 60W each. The bulbs are not included, so choose the warmth and brightness you prefer. A universal dimmer comes with the lamp. Dust the glass and metal with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
