Alba Table Lamp by Oluce

Alba is a table lamp with a drop of polished opaline blown glass resting on a satin brass base, designed by Mariana Pellegrino Soto for Oluce in 2017.

It comes in one finish: satin brass with a polished opaline glass drop.

The Design Story

Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, built the Alba family around one simple image: a drop of water. The designer uses that drop in different ways across the range, pairing soft shapes from nature with square, geometric lines. In the table lamp, the glass drop rests on a rectangular-section satin brass profile shaped like a double asymmetrical L, which is both the base and the ornament of the light.

The Designers

Mariana Pellegrino Soto grew up in Caracas and studied product design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. Her thesis project was developed together with Oluce, which led to her work for the company. In 2016 she won the Best Packaging Award at the Global Bottled Water Awards for a bottle design. She now works at F&N Compositi.

How It Was Made

Oluce makes Alba in Italy from metal and polished opaline blown glass. The glass drop gives a soft, diffused light, and the brass profile that holds it is anodized in a satin finish.

Why You’ll Love It

The glass drop glows evenly and looks as good switched off as lit. It gives a soft, diffused light that suits a bedside or a console, and the satin brass base adds a warm, graphic line. A universal dimmer is included, so you can bring the light down for the evening.

Made for Real Life

The lamp takes one E26 bulb up to 60W. The bulb is not included, so choose the warmth and brightness you prefer. A universal dimmer comes with the lamp. Dust the glass and brass with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
