Kin Small Pendant Light by Oluce

Kin is a small LED pendant with a flared cast aluminium body and a glowing methacrylate disc, designed in 2013 by Francesco Rota for Oluce.

It comes in 2 finishes: anodic bronze and satin gold glaze.

The Design Story

Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, builds Kin around a cast aluminium body with an LED core at its heart, an explicit yet refined design by Francesco Rota. The body’s flared shape, with its slim profile, closes with a transparent methacrylate disc that diffuses the LED light outward.

The Designers

Francesco Rota was born in Milan in 1966 and trained as an interior and product designer, graduating from the Art Center College of Design in La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland, in 1994. He returned to Milan in 1995 and founded the Francesco Rota Design Office, working with Italian and international companies on interior and spatial design, including the offices, showroom and warehouse for Oluce’s own factory and headquarters in Milan.

“Kin can be introduced both into a wide range of domestic environments and into an infinite variety of contract solutions.”

How It Was Made

Kin is made in Italy with a turned metal body and a transparent PMMA (methacrylate) diffuser. A single integrated LED sits inside the body and casts both direct and diffused light through the disc.

Why You’ll Love It

Kin's small, flared body and glowing disc give it real presence for its size, whether hung alone over a side table or grouped in a cluster over a kitchen island. The anodic bronze and satin gold finishes both catch the light warmly, so it works as a quiet accent or a small cluster statement.

Made for Real Life

The 4W LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to replace, and it gives a warm 2700K light with a CRI above 85. Wipe the metal and methacrylate disc with a soft dry cloth and skip abrasive or solvent cleaners.
