Meet the Designer
Designed by
Carmine Deganello, 2009
For Carmine Deganello, a lamp begins with a material and an experiment. Based in Amsterdam and Milan, he has worked with Pablo for years, and his designs have been exhibited at Milan’s Triennale Design Museum and Vienna’s MAK.
The Design Story
Solis was designed for Pablo Designs by Carmine Deganello, a Milan-based experimental product and architectural designer whose practice is driven by research into materials. With Solis he set out to engage with light in its archetypal form, the sun’s rays: a laser-cut polyester shade held in tension between two rings, so light escapes through hundreds of fine cuts and casts shimmering rays and radiating patterns across a room. Pablo Designs has made lighting in San Francisco since 1993.
Why You’ll Love It
Together the shades multiply the patterns, so the whole room becomes part of the light.
Made for Real Life
Three 11 W LED bulbs on one 26 in canopy, fully dimmable. It ships flat-packed.

Questions We Hear Most
Is it good for a stairwell?
Yes, especially in the taller 72 inch size.
Which color is most dramatic?
Black.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with TRIAC/ELV dimmers; DALI is available on request.
Does the light get warmer as it dims?
No. It uses fixed 2700K LED bulbs, so the color stays the same as you dim.
Is assembly complex?
It ships flat-packed with straightforward assembly; installation needs an electrician.
Who is it not for?
It needs hardwiring to a ceiling junction box and a 26 in canopy footprint, and the spec sheet lists no wet or outdoor rating.
