The Design Story

An extension to the iconic Tolomeo family, Tolomeo with shade features the same arm balancing body system as the Tolomeo table lamp combined with a selection of parchment or fabric shades, giving a warmer and more transitional look to the original version.

Meet the Designers

Michele De Lucchi (born 1951 in Ferrara) is an Italian architect and designer and was a member of the Memphis group in the 1980s. With Giancarlo Fassina he designed the Tolomeo in 1987, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1989 and grew into a whole family, from Micro to Mega.

Giancarlo Fassina is an Italian designer and a longtime Artemide collaborator. His technical precision was key to the Tolomeo, which he co-designed with Michele De Lucchi in 1987.

Famous on Screen

Look closely at M's desk in the James Bond film Skyfall (2012): that is a Tolomeo Basculante table lamp. Few lamps say "serious work happens here" quite like a Tolomeo.

Questions We Hear Most

Base, clamp or pivot: which way should I mount the Tolomeo With Shade?

A base lets you move the lamp anywhere; a clamp frees up the whole desktop; an inset pivot is the most permanent and cleanest look, set into a hole in the desk. Pick the one that matches how you work (our advice).

When will my Tolomeo With Shade ship?

Quick Ship options ship in 3–5 business days; Standard delivery options ship in 2–4 weeks from Artemide's warehouse (see the part number table at the bottom). We email your confirmed ship date after you order.

Is the Tolomeo the lamp on M's desk in Skyfall?

Yes: M's desk at MI6 in Skyfall (2012) has a Tolomeo Basculante table lamp.

Is a bulb included with the Tolomeo With Shade?

No. The bulb versions take E26 bulb, 8W max. A warm 2700K LED bulb gives the most natural glow (our advice).

How do I dim or switch the Tolomeo With Shade?

On/off (on lampholder), according to Artemide.

Where are the exact measurements for the Tolomeo With Shade?

Open the line drawing in the gallery or the spec sheet near the top of this page; Artemide shows every measurement there.
