The Design Story
The Duchess turns stone into light. Her dome is formed from rough marble chips, and Swarovski crystals are set by hand among them, so the raw face of stone meets the refined sparkle of crystal. Ieva Kalēja kept the semi-spherical form classical and let the materials do the surprising. Every surface is its own composition, so no two Duchesses catch the light the same way.
Ieva Kalēja, the Riga designer behind Mammalampa, was named by Elle Decor in 2020 among the ten most talented women designers in the world, as reported by FOLD magazine, and in 2026 she leads the product-design jury of Latvia’s National Design Award.
