The Design Story

Torre borrows the proportions of a classic colonnade and strips away everything but the glass. Light escapes from the open top and bottom, so you get a band of light on the wall above and below, while the glass itself glows. Chalk is a soft white opal cased glass worked with spiraling off-white strokes; the clear outer layer is satin-etched, so unlit it reads like brushed fabric and lit the texture comes forward. Besa’s signature is the glass. American designers work with European craftsmen, every shade is made by hand, and each one is inspected in Ohio before it leaves the factory, so the small variations you see are the mark of a handmade piece, not a flaw.
