The Design Story
Emily brings the sconce to rooms that were never wired for one. It mounts on a simple bracket, and the battery hides in the base plate. Modern Lantern was founded in 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas, by designers Stephen and Carrie Fitzwater, who set out to put light exactly where it is needed.

The Technology Inside
Most cordless lamps hide a sealed battery: when it runs down, the whole lamp has to go to an outlet, and when it wears out, the lamp is finished. Modern Lantern patented a different idea.
