Original BTC British Lighting

Original BTC makes lights the slow way: bone china cast in Stoke-on-Trent, glass blown in Oxfordshire and metal spun and soldered by hand, all under one family-run company.

Peter Bowles started it in 1990 and became the first designer to light a room through bone china; his Hector dome is still the house classic. Over the years the company bought the factories it depended on rather than let them close: the bone china works in 2002, the dockyard-born Davey Lighting in 2010, and a glassworks and metal works in 2011. That is why the range spans soft china pendants, sculptural Drop and Hatton shades, colorful designs with Beata Heuman, Terence Conran and Buchanan Studio, and tough ship’s lights for porches and bathrooms. Ours are the 120V versions, bought through the official US distributor.

Who started Original BTC?
