Thin lamellas of wood or brushed metal spiral around a single bulb, so the light leaks out between them in soft, warm bands while the bulb itself stays hidden.

The Design Story

In his first Copenhagen workshop, Tom Rossau assembled slats into a cylinder simply to see how they behaved under pressure. The TR5 was the first lamp to come out of that game, in 2005, and it is still the piece most people picture when they hear his name. The studio began with an experiment: Tom Rossau pressed thin strips of wood into a cylinder to see how they would bend, and the harder he pressed, the more expressive the shape became. That experiment became the TR5 in 2005, and every lamp since has followed the same idea of flat material coaxed into sculpture, built by hand in Copenhagen.

Hang the 23.6" or 31.5" over a dining table for four to eight, or go to 39.4" over a long table or a double-height room. It takes one ordinary E26 LED bulb, arrives assembled, and the canopy handles a sloped ceiling. Changing the bulb needs no tools. Is every TR5 really made by hand?

Yes. Each TR5 is assembled by one lamp builder in Tom Rossau’s Copenhagen workshop, which is why tiny variations from lamp to lamp are part of its character.

Wood or aluminum: which TR5 should I choose?

Birch gives the warmest, most organic glow; the stained birch colors are deeper and more graphic; brushed copper and gold aluminum add a soft metallic shimmer and suit more glamorous rooms.

Which interiors suit the TR5 best?

Scandinavian, Japandi, mid-century and modern farmhouse rooms are natural partners, but its sculptural shape also softens very minimal, concrete-and-glass interiors.

Why is the TR5 so well known?

It was the first lamella lamp Tom Rossau designed, in 2005, and its spiraling birch strips became the signature of the whole studio.
