MAKOTO Sushi Platter by Carsten Gollnick for blomus — A rectangular stoneware serving platter on a floating pedestal, ideal for sushi and savory bites.
Part of MAKOTO, Carsten Gollnick’s Japanese-inspired stoneware for the German design house blomus, made in Portugal.
The Design Story

Gollnick designed this long, low plate with sushi in mind: a narrow rectangle that lines food up the way a sushi counter does, raised on MAKOTO’s hidden foot so it seems to hover over the table. Gollnick, born in 1966, has run his own studio in Germany since 1997 and has drawn on Japanese design for his whole career. He works by a simple rule taken from that tradition: no object outranks another, since even the smallest piece has a purpose. More than 100 products and awards from iF, the German Design Award and Red Dot have come out of that studio.
Why You’ll Love It
Food looks composed on it without effort: lay pieces in a row and you’re done. It is narrow enough to fit down the middle of a table or beside each guest’s plate. The matte glaze lets colors of fish, vegetables and sauces stand out. It is also an elegant way to serve dessert bites or cheese.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Each piece is unique: small variations appear during firing and give every piece its character. Pairs well with the pedestal plates, tray saucer, floating bowls.

Questions We Hear Most
Is the MAKOTO platter only for sushi?
Not at all: it’s great for canapés, cheese, grilled vegetables, dumplings or a row of desserts.
How do I set a table with MAKOTO platters?
Run two or three down the center for sharing, or give each guest one beside their dinner plate for a sushi or tapas course.
Which MAKOTO glaze makes food look best?
Elephant Skin’s smooth gray makes bright food pop; Moonbeam’s light, textured surface feels softer and more rustic.
What style is the MAKOTO platter?
Japanese-inspired with a Nordic palette: minimalist, calm and at home in Japandi or Scandinavian interiors.
Does the MAKOTO platter make a good host gift?
Yes, for anyone who loves to entertain or makes sushi at home.
When will my MAKOTO platter ship?
It usually leaves within 2–3 business days of your order.

Why We Love It
Every piece is a little different from the kiln, and the floating base turns an everyday table into a composition. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
