SABLO Plates by Frederike Martens for blomus — Stoneware plates in sets of four, half glazed and half bare speckled clay, in three sizes and two colors.
Part of SABLO, Frederike Martens’ partly glazed stoneware tableware for the German design house blomus.
The Design Story

Martens wanted a table that invites people to linger and talk, and she took her cues from sand and clay. The SABLO plate is the clearest expression of that idea: a flat, generous form, glazed where food sits and left bare where hands touch. Martens, born in 1987, trained in Halle, Germany, as an industrial designer focused on glass and ceramics. Her work is about balance: plain, quiet forms, colors picked to last, and materials allowed to show what they are. SABLO was her debut collection for blomus.
The trick of SABLO is what is left bare. A glaze covers only part of each piece, and the rest is speckled clay that feels like fine sand. That is possible because the clay, mixed with quartz, minerals and oxides, is fired hot enough to be dense on its own. Cloud is a soft off-white with a hint of gray, Stone a pale gray with a cool blue cast, and Savannah a warm, deep yellow; on every color the bare band is a sandy beige.
Why You’ll Love It
The two textures make even a weekday dinner look considered. The low rim keeps the plate light and easy to stack, and the Cloud glaze is calm enough to let food take center stage. Savannah warms up a table with a sunny yellow. Mixed together, the sizes build a full setting from bread to dessert.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Our advice: the bare clay can pick up stains from strongly colored foods like turmeric or red wine if left to sit, so rinse plates soon after the meal. Glaze and clay react to the kiln, so color and texture vary slightly from one piece to the next. Pairs well with the bowls, pasta plates, tapas plates.

It looks at home at a long weekend lunch, under a slice of cake, on a holiday table with greenery, or stacked on an open kitchen shelf.
Questions We Hear Most
How do I build a full SABLO place setting?
Start with a dinner plate and a dessert plate per person, add a cereal or medium bowl and a mug or cup. The snack plates and salad bowls round it out for sharing.
Does the SABLO rim feel rough?
It has the light grit of fine sand, pleasant to the touch, while the glazed center is smooth for cutlery.
Can I mix SABLO Cloud and Savannah plates?
Yes. They share the same sandy clay band, so a Savannah dessert plate on a Cloud dinner plate looks deliberate.
What interior style suits SABLO plates?
Scandinavian, Japandi, rustic modern and coastal kitchens, anywhere natural materials lead.
Can SABLO plates go in the dishwasher?
Yes, and in the microwave too. SABLO is made for everyday use, not just for best.
When will my SABLO plates leave the warehouse?
In-stock orders usually leave within 2–3 business days.

Why We Love It
Half glaze, half raw clay: every SABLO piece carries a little of the material it was made from. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
