Pruning Shears in Aogami Blue Steel by Tobisho — the pruners Japanese professionals trust, with hand-brazed Aogami steel blades.
Made by Tobisho in Yamagata, Japan.
The Design Story
In Yamagata, where orchards and flower fields shape the year, Tobisho makes nothing but shears for plants. Each blade is cut from Yasuki Aogami, the “blue paper” steel Japanese smiths reserve for edges that must stay keen, and brazed by hand.
Why You’ll Love It
Good secateurs change how gardening feels. Tobisho’s glide through stems with a clean, quiet cut that is kind to the plant, thanks to rounded blades of Aogami steel brazed on by hand. The handles fall naturally into the palm, and the whole tool has the reassuring heft of something made to last a working life.
Made for Real Life
Rinse and dry after use, keep them indoors, oil the blades once a year and have them professionally sharpened when they need it. A stopper at the handle end keeps them closed in a pocket or drawer.

Questions We Hear Most
What is Aogami steel?
Yasuki Aogami, or “blue paper” steel, is a Japanese carbon steel prized for taking and holding a very sharp edge.
How should the Aogami pruners be stored?
Dry and indoors; a stopper at the handle end keeps them closed.
Do Aogami blades need special care?
Just a wipe and dry after each use, and a light oiling once a year.
Who are these pruning shears made for?
Professional gardeners and horticulturists, and serious home gardeners.
What can the Tobisho pruners cut? (our advice)
Stems, shoots and branches of hand-pruner size; use a saw or loppers for thicker wood.
Can I have the Tobisho pruners resharpened?
Yes, any competent knife and tool sharpener can do it.
