Thomas Eyck Basket

Basket is part of the Tin Collection by Studio Job. The expressive language of Studio Job is powerful and icon-like. In the series of five pewter objects which Studio Job designed for Thomas Eyck, amongst which a candlestick, a vase and a dish, this contemporary-archaic handwriting is perfectly in harmony with the traditional technique of casting pewter.

The objects are produced in The Netherlands's oldest pewter factory. A block of pewter is melted in the factory and cast by hand in metal molds. The pewter, originating from Indonesia, is a durable material and was used in the Middle Ages for the fabrication of tableware. The grayish colored material does not get rusty and is suitable for daily use. Limited edition of 150.

About the Designer
Studio Job, was founded in 1997 by Job Smeets (1969) and Nynke Tynagel (1977). Studio Job works on the border of design and fine arts. They are not afraid to work with unusual materials. Studio Job makes furniture and objects out of paper mache, aluminum and bronze.

Recently they added a collection of icon-like furniture, made of white cardboard. Studio Job also designs decorative ceramic objects for Royal Tichelaar Makkum, as well as exhibition designs and decorative patterns which can be applied as wall covering or textile.
