sitaku-hinoki-board-porcelain-tray-kihara
Sitaku Hinoki Board & Porcelain Tray by Kihara

Sitaku Hinoki Board & Porcelain Tray by Kihara — a fragrant hinoki board nested in white porcelain, for small, tidy cutting.

From Kihara’s Sitaku collection.

The Design Story

Kihara’s Sitaku line is about the moment before cooking (shitaku means preparation): a family of small tools for grating, pressing, grinding and cutting, made to sit together on the counter.

Why You’ll Love It

Sitaku solves a small daily annoyance beautifully: the lemon that floods the counter. The cypress board is light, warm under the knife and faintly scented, and the porcelain tray below keeps every drop contained. Lift the board away and the tray becomes a plate for whatever you just cut.

Made for Real Life

It is dishwasher safe; a quick rinse is usually all it needs. Let the wood dry standing up. The board is finished by hand in Japan, so every grain is a little different, and it doubles as a trivet for a hot pot.

Product Details

Maker

Kihara, Sitaku line

Board

One piece of hinoki cypress

Tray

Square white porcelain

Size

19 cm square (7.48 in)

Washing

Dishwasher safe

Origin

Gifu and Arita, Japan

Item no.

KI-14625

Where It Shines

On the bar cart for citrus, beside the stove for garnishes, or on the table for cheese and fruit.

Questions We Hear Most

How big is the Sitaku board in centimetres?

About 19 cm square.

Is the hinoki board one piece?

Yes, it is cut from a single piece of hinoki cypress.

Can the Sitaku set go in the dishwasher?

Yes, it is dishwasher safe.

Can I serve on the porcelain tray?

Yes, it doubles as a serving plate.

What is hinoki?

A Japanese cypress known for being light and naturally fragrant.

Where would I use the Sitaku board most?
