Glaze goes only where food sits, so the bowl feels as natural as it looks. Martens, born in 1987, trained in Halle, Germany, as an industrial designer focused on glass and ceramics. Her work is about balance: plain, quiet forms, colors picked to last, and materials allowed to show what they are. SABLO was her debut collection for blomus.

The trick of SABLO is what is left bare. A glaze covers only part of each piece, and the rest is speckled clay that feels like fine sand. That is possible because the clay, mixed with quartz, minerals and oxides, is fired hot enough to be dense on its own. Cloud is a soft off-white with a hint of gray, Stone a pale gray with a cool blue cast, and Savannah a warm, deep yellow; on every color the bare band is a sandy beige.

Why You’ll Love It

It is a bowl you reach for every day. The cereal bowl is the right size for breakfast; the medium bowl handles a full portion of noodles or a hearty soup. The bare outside gives a sure grip, and the glazed inside wipes clean. In Stone or Savannah, a few bowls bring color to a Cloud table.

Made for Real Life

Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Our advice: avoid moving a bowl straight from the fridge into a hot oven; sudden temperature changes are hard on any stoneware. Glaze and clay react to the kiln, so color and texture vary slightly from one piece to the next. Pairs well with the plates, salad bowls, mugs.

Product Details

Maker

blomus (Sundern, Germany)

Collection

SABLO

Designed by

Frederike Martens

What it is

Stoneware bowls, set of 4

Color options

Cloud, Stone, Savannah

Size: snack bowl

3.9" × 1.2" (10 × 3 cm); holds 4.5 oz (about 130 ml) — available in Cloud

Size: small bowl

4.3" × 2.6" (11 × 6.5 cm); holds 15 oz (about 440 ml) — available in Cloud

Size: cereal bowl

5.1" × 2.8" (13 × 7 cm); holds 22 oz (about 650 ml) — available in Cloud, Stone, Savannah

Size: medium bowl

6.1" × 2.8" (15.5 × 7 cm); holds 29 oz (about 860 ml) — available in Cloud, Savannah

Pieces included

4

Made from

Stoneware, partly glazed, with bare speckled clay

Care

Dishwasher and microwave safe

blomus item no.

Cloud snack bowl: 64107.4; Cloud small bowl: 64103.4; Cloud cereal bowl: 64162.4; Cloud medium bowl: 64104.4; Stone cereal bowl: 64326.4; Savannah cereal bowl: 64349.4; Savannah medium bowl: 64331.4

Where It Shines

It looks at home on a breakfast tray with granola, at a ramen night, holding olives at an apéritif, or stacked by color on a kitchen shelf.

Questions We Hear Most

What is the SABLO snack bowl good for?

Dips, sauces, nuts, olives or a small dessert.
