A flat base anchors two thin arms that fold at an elbow and end in a small LED head you can aim. It stands 13.5 inches tall, reaches up to 18.9 inches wide and plugs into a wall outlet with a six-foot black cloth cord.

A touch dimmer on the lamp gives you three light levels. Photo from Visual Comfort.

Sean Lavin designs lighting by working with light, form and material, drawing on art, architecture, travel and technology. Ponte reduces the task lamp to its structure: two thin links, one pivot and a light source the size of a matchbox. Visual Comfort calls it minimal in scale yet significant in function, and the pivoting head is what makes it work, because you can aim the light exactly where it is needed and leave the rest of the surface clear.

Why You'll Love It

Ponte is the lamp for a desk, a nightstand or a reading nook where you want a light that does a job and stays out of the way. The arm reaches out over a book, a keyboard or a sketchpad, and the head pivots to aim the light. The head puts out 310 lumens of 3000K light at 90 CRI, bright enough to read by and soft enough not to glare. Three dimming levels let you step down for the evening. In Polished Nickel or Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass it also reads as a small piece of jewelry on a dark wood desk.

Built to Last

The lamp is made of aluminum and brass and weighs 9 lbs, so it sits solidly on its flat base. It is ETL listed for indoor, dry locations only. Visual Comfort backs it with a five-year warranty.

Product Details

<th scope="row"
