A tapered metal shade sits on a hair-thin stem that rises from a low, round base, and the whole lamp stands 10.5 inches tall. It charges over USB C and runs without a cord, so it works as well on a terrace as it does on a dresser.

It lasts up to 12 to 14 hours on a full battery and dims in three steps with a touch at the base. Choose Black, Bronze, Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass or Matte White.

The Design Story

Designer Sean Lavin. Photo from Visual Comfort.

Sean Lavin designs lighting by working with light, form and material, drawing on art, architecture, travel and technology. Nevis reduces the familiar lamp-and-shade form to three clean shapes: a cone, a line and a disc. The shade lets the light spill softly downward and upward, and the thin stem keeps the lamp from taking up visual space. Visual Comfort calls it versatile and functional, and the short version is sized for tables where a full-height lamp would be too much.

Why You'll Love It

Nevis Short is the lamp that follows you around. It sits on a bistro table for dinner outside, then comes in to light a desk or a bedside. Because the light comes from under a shade rather than a bare bulb, it gives a lamp-like pool of warmth and not a glare. The three-step touch dimmer moves through bright, soft and low, and the 2700K light at 90 CRI keeps food and faces looking natural. A six-foot USB C cable and a wall charger come in the box. Black and Bronze come with a black cable, Matte White with a white one and Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass with a cream one, so the cord blends in too.

Made for Real Life

The lamp is made of aluminum and brass and weighs 2 lbs, so one hand can carry it from room to room. At 258 lumens it gives a gentle glow, so for sewing or long reading sessions choose a fixture with higher output. It also suits you less if you want a heavy, statement base; at 2 lbs it is easy to move but also easy to knock over in a strong wind, so bring it in when the weather turns. Plan on a recharge every 12 to 14 hours of use.

Questions We Hear Most

How long does the Nevis Short run before I recharge it?

Up to 12 to 14 hours on a full charge, depending on the dimmer setting, and about 5 hours to recharge over the included USB C cable.

Can I use it outside?

Its spec sheet lists an ETL wet location certification and an outdoor full weather rating, so a covered patio or deck works.
