Wired for North America (120V AC).

The Design Story

The well glass is a ship’s light: a heavy cast body and a thick glass “well” made to survive salt, wind and rain, now as at home on a bathroom wall as on a harbor wall. Davey Lighting began in the shipyards of nineteenth-century London; Original BTC took it on in 2010 to keep it making by hand in England, using techniques some of which date back to London’s East India Docks in the 1880s.

Why You’ll Love It

It is tough enough for the outdoors and handsome enough for a hallway. These are working lights with a past: honest materials, real ratings for weather, and finishes that look better with age.

Made for Real Life

It is wired to the ceiling by an electrician and sealed for porches and bathrooms within its rating. Wipe it down with a soft cloth and skip the metal polish: weathered, raw and galvanised finishes are meant to look lived-in. Near the sea, rinse off salt now and then with fresh water.

Product Details

Product

Weatherproof Ship’s Companionway Light with Guard

Maker

Original BTC, Oxfordshire, England

Light type

Indoor/outdoor ceiling light

Made from

Glass, brass (clear glass)

Size

H 19 cm (H 7.5")

Weight

1.4 kg (3.1 lb)

Bulb / light

E26 socket, max 60W

Dims

Yes

Voltage

120V AC

Where it can go

IP54; suitable for bathroom, outdoor, indoor

Country of origin

United Kingdom

Original BTC item no.

BT-DP7203/BR/CL/WE

Price

$865

Where It Shines

It looks at home on a porch, along a covered walkway or in a bathroom.
