The blocks borrow from European rooftops, fairy-tale villages and snowy peaks, and the palette stays soft so every arrangement looks calm and intentional.

Kentaro Eguchi trained as a fine artist at New York's School of Visual Arts, then spent decades in early-childhood classrooms: he is a qualified Montessori teacher and opened Ivy's House Montessori kindergarten in Taipei in 1997. In 2015 he started Eguchi Toys, where designers, carpenters and preschool educators work side by side, and the pieces have since travelled to Maison&Objet Paris and the Nuremberg International Toy Fair.

Why You'll Love It

Every piece is solid beech, cut and finished by hand, so it feels weighty and warm rather than hollow.

There are no instructions to follow: children compose their own scenes, which is where the distributor's points about spatial composition, color and perspective come in.

The muted pastel palette suits a modern nursery or living room instead of shouting from the toy box.

It grows with a child, from simple stacking to elaborate storytelling towns.

It arrives gift boxed and is US CPSIA tested.

Made for Real Life

Leave a few houses and a tree on a bookshelf as decor and keep the rest in the box. Beech is a hard, dense wood, so the blocks stand up to being knocked over day after day.
