It comes in three sizes, 18, 24 and 36 in, and three finishes, Natural, White and Blonde, so you can hang a single statement over a table or a rhythm of drums down a restaurant bar.

Every Drum is made to order by hand, so the pendant that arrives is made for your space. It is designer lighting you can afford, in a material built to last.

The Design Story

"When something is made by hand, you can feel the life and soul that went into it."

Seth Grizzle, Graypants cofounder, speaking to WeWork Ideas

Graypants began in Seattle with two architects, Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, and an unlikely material. Grizzle built a series of chairs from found cardboard, then turned the scraps into lights, and the lights stole the show. Today the studio works from Seattle and Amsterdam, and Drum is one of the simplest, most graceful expressions of that first idea.

"You can tell when something is made by a machine or a human," Grizzle told WeWork Ideas. Drum is made by both: designed and cut with computers, then finished by human hands.

How It Is Made

Each layer of recycled cardboard is cut with precision, then assembled by hand with non-toxic adhesive around a frame. Grizzle calls the process a "high-tech, low-tech scenario." The stacked edges catch the light in fine, shifting lines, which is why a Drum looks different by day and by night, and why no two are exactly alike.

Why You'll Love It

Drum brings warmth and texture to rooms that lean sleek. It is quiet enough to sit over a dining table and graphic enough to anchor a restaurant, boutique or reception. The 18 in size suits small spaces and groupings, the 24 in suits a table or island, and the 36 in makes a bold statement alone. Cardboard does not fade or peel, and a light dusting is all it needs. Graypants Scraplights have been used in projects including True Food Kitchen, NBBJ Columbus, Ancestry in Salt Lake City and Pablo y Pablo.

Made for Real Life

Each Drum holds three E26 sockets for LED bulbs of up to 15W (bulbs not included), with 2700K warm white recommended. It runs on 120V and is rated IP20 for dry locations. It hangs on a black or white cord, 6.5 ft (198 cm) or 16 ft (488 cm), from a black or white canopy, and Graypants also offers custom cords and canopies. Please have a qualified electrician plan the ceiling support. To clean, use a dry duster or compressed air; the shade is non-toxic and handmade.

Product Details

Collection

Graypants Scraplights

Finishes

Natural, White, Blonde

Sizes

18 in: 18 in diameter x 8 in high (45 x 21 cm); 24 in: 24 in diameter x 9 in high (61 x 24 cm); 36 in: 36 in diameter x 14 in high (92 x 35 cm)

Weight

18 in: 7.7 lb (3.5 kg); 24 in: 9.9 lb (4.5 kg); 36 in: 21.8 lb (9.9 kg)

Packed for shipping

18 in: 13.9 lb (6.3 kg); 24 in: 19.8 lb (9 kg); 36 in: 41.2 lb (18.7 kg)

Materials

Recycled corrugated cardboard

Light source

Three E26 sockets, up to 15W LED each, 2700K recommended (bulbs not included)

Voltage

120V

Fire retardant

Yes

Cord and canopy

Black or white cord, 6.5 ft (198 cm), 16 ft (488 cm) available; black or white powder-coated canopy, 4.5 in diameter x 3/8 in high; custom cords and canopies available

Care

Dry duster or compressed air; the shade is non-toxic and handmade

IP rating

IP20, dry locations only

Origin

Designed in Seattle; made in the USA

Item numbers

18 in: GP-151-UL (Natural), GP-1151-UL (White), GP-2151-UL (Blonde); 24 in: GP-152-UL, GP-1152-UL, GP-2152-UL; 36 in: GP-153-UL, GP-1153-UL, GP-2153-UL

Lead time

Made to order, about 4 weeks

Handmade for You

Drum is made to order and assembled by hand, so each pendant is crafted after you choose it.
